Caramelised Halal Beef Bacon



Ingredients:
  • 10 slices sweet halal beef bacon,
  • Finely ground black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons of  light brown sugar

 

Method:
  1. Pre-heat the oven to 170°C/340°F/Gas 3.

  2. Place the sweet halal beef bacon slices in a bowl, season them with pepper and toss with the brown sugar. Cover a baking sheet with parchment or foil and arrange the halal beef bacon in a single layer on top. Sprinkle any sugar left in the bowl over the halal beef bacon. Top with another layer of parchment or foil and top it, squarely, with another baking sheet. The baking sheet will flatten the halal beef bacon as it cooks.

  3. Place the tray in the centre of the oven and bake for 20 minutes. Check the halal beef bacon by lifting the top tray and parchment. If it is not golden brown and fairly crispy cook for 10-15 minutes longer. Do not adjust the heat.

  4. Check it again. Keep in mind that when you remove the tray and transfer the halal beef  bacon to a serving platter or individual plates, the halal beef bacon will 'crisp' a little more.

  5. Ready to serve, great with pancakes and syrup.
